Be Aware of Your Backyard Fire Hazards | SERVPRO® of South Pasadena

5/19/2023 (Permalink)

If a backyard barbecue turns into a backyard disaster, call SERVPRO of South Pasadena to help get you back to the great outdoors.

The summer season will be here soon, and we are already looking forward to it! We love the South Pasadena community no matter what season it is, but summer around town is pretty special.

There’s nothing better than making memories with your family during a backyard BBQ or enjoying a bonfire in the driveway using your portable fire pit. However, many of the summer activities we all enjoy carry their own fire risk, so it is important that you are being responsible around any flame or fire hazard this summer.

We explain some preventive steps to take below, so read on to stay informed and fire-safe.

The Fun That Uses Fire

Open flame always carries a risk of getting out of control. This is especially true when it comes to grills and bonfires of any type.

Did you know that grills are responsible for nearly 9,000 home fires every year? Before you light up your grill or open your gas lines, be sure to check for leaks or dents in your tanks.

If you like to enjoy a bonfire every so often, choose a smart location for your fire pit. Stay far away from your home or garage, and only use matches or lighters to start your fire.

Any sort of chemical accelerant can create a dangerous situation very fast. If you have one of those driveway pits, place it on a level spot on your driveway, and never on a wooden deck or underneath your garage’s overhang.

Fire Risk Around the House

If you have gas cans in your shed or garage, be sure they are being stored correctly and are not leaking. You should also only ever store gas in approved containers. Storing it in a container of your own choosing creates unsafe conditions and can become fuel for a fire quickly.

While it is possible to burn yard waste in the state of Texas, it needs to happen safely and responsibly in order to keep your fire under control. The burn pile needs to be far away from your home or outbuildings and all rules and regulations need to be followed.

Staying Safe Around Flame

Before you light a fire of any kind, be sure that you are understanding the current weather conditions and be aware of any type of burning ban or restriction. If the conditions are unsafe or questionable, save the flame for another day.

If you do experience fire damage to your house or property, SERVPRO of South Pasadena is here to help with your recovery. We will walk you through every step of the process, from cleaning and sanitizing to repairing wall or floor damage.

Don’t let fire damage keep you down! If you need assistance with fire damage restoration, call SERVPRO of South Pasadena.
